Renowned for its natural beauty and diverse landscape and culture, Crete is the largest island in Greece. It boasts towering mountain ranges sliced by dramatic gorges and interspersed with vast plateaus and endless beaches. Experience its remarkable history, evident across the island, from the ruins of the Minoan palace of Knossos to the Venetian fortresses of Rethymo.
Cretans are a proud and hospitable people who maintain their culture and customs. Throughout the island you will come across traditional mountain villages and agricultural settlements unaffected by tourism. Locals are eager to share their insider knowledge of secluded beaches and gorgeous hikes with interested visitors. Yet Crete’s spirit is almost impossible to capture or define, as its best qualities—the relaxed pace of life, rebellious streak, and seemingly infinite diversity—are only minor samples of the island’s rich offerings.
Coming to Crete means experiencing a blend of Modern Greek culture mixed in with a deep appreciation for the historical and cultural past, even if much of it is mythological in nature. The island is literally packed with archeological wonders, from temples to intriguing caves to magnificent mountains, endless beaches and more!
